Porticello - Things to see and do

Map
The map (Google Maps) of the fishing village of Porticello offers you an overview of some things to see, its shopping facilities, the stops of the Santa Flavia Shuttle and the exact location of the Solemar Sicilia holiday lettings.
Below you will find a list of all Sicily - All in one Place maps.

Beach
The beach of Porticello may only have gravel, but it has one decisive advantage: it is within easy walking distance and offers a pizzeria, a bar and an ice cream parlour.
So it's no wonder that the village beach is particularly popular with families. People meet here not only to swim, but also to eat ice cream.

Fishing harbour
You like "authentic" places? Then you've come to the right place. Porticello still lives mainly from fishing and only a little from tourism. The quaint charm of a fishing harbour can therefore be felt everywhere.
On the opposite side of the street, there is something for guests: a modern bar, restaurants and some holiday lettings. From here you can watch the colourful hustle and bustle in comfort.

Museo del Mare
Porticello and the sea - it is immediately clear to every visitor that this connection is based on an ancient tradition.
The Museo del Mare, which opened at the end of 2024, describes its history - and of course tells many stories - using modern means. Opposites attract.

Piano Stenditore
In Italian, "stendere" means "to spread out". Old photos show why our place is called "Stenditore": this is where fishing nets were spread out for repair and boats were painted.
Today it is a wonderful place to relax and stroll - with a view of the sea, Pizzo Cane and the Madonie mountains, of course. The Piano Stenditore will be completely remodelled in 2024. It will then finally be the "parlour" of Porticello.

Borgo Santa Nicolicchia
The pizza tastes twice as good with a little tangy sea air in your nose. The film crew on the other side of the bay are not having such a good time. They are trying their hand at the umpteenth variation of a scene for a soap opera.
Pizza with sea air? Film crew? Soap opera? Yes, the small bay with the complicated name is known for all of this throughout Italy. So you're not exactly alone here in summer.
Our photo, on the other hand, was taken at the end of September. And we also got a pizza.

Solunto
It is the end of August in the year 128 B.C. The sun is low on the horizon. A light breeze from the sea dispels the heat of the day. We sit in the theatre and wait eagerly for the actors.
An evening in Solunto a good 2000 years ago could have gone something like this.
Although the theatre of Solunto no longer exists today, almost all of the foundation walls have been preserved. So we can walk through a complete ancient city and enjoy the breathtakingly wide view of the sea. This is unique in Sicily.

For expats
A light breeze blows from the sea onto your terrace. The typical scent of a fishing harbour blends delicately with the fresh sea air.
And you already know what you will be offering your guests tonight. Fish, of course. But Peter is a vegetarian! No problem. In Porticello, there is one thing more than fish: vegetables.
It's a good thing that the local expat service found this flat at the harbour for you:
